This past weekend was the perfect couple of days spent. It was a crisp fall day and I did an activity I hadn’t experienced before. My mom, sister and I went to the Brimfield Fair out in Western MA. If you haven’t heard of the fair before, it’s a world famous flea market that runs three times a year (May, July and September). If you’re familiar with the HGTV show, Flea Market Flip, they actually film at this flea market. The market is over a mile long with a quarter of million visitors, so it can be a bit overwhelming. To be honest, we barley made a dent in the fair, but it was overall a really fun experience! For any first time goers, I’ve put together some quick tips if you want to visit the next time in May.
- Get there early for parking and to avoid major traffic (avoid Rt 20 if you can!)
- Take a lap and scope out the area before you start to buy
- Don’t be afraid to bargin on the price! I always feel really awkward, but the owners are ready for it and generally really nice
- Think outside of the box and avoid places where they’ve reinvented old pieces because their prices will be more expensive
And of course, I need to show you what I got……
I got a wooden decorative piece because I love having natural elements such as wood into the apartment. I bought a beautiful gold china dish I’m going to use to store my every day skincare and beauty products. And last but certainly not least, I got 1930’s glassware to add a nice touch to our small “bar” area. I don’t know why but these vintage pieces, especially glassware, has really caught my interest. I really enjoy creating a home that’s filled with old and new decor pieces – it makes our home feel unique to our taste.
This recent trip to Brimfield has given me the reminder of how important collecting special pieces are for your home. It’s really about collecting items over a lifetime that tell a story and are items that you love.
