This year, I kept my holiday decor simple + organic
I wanted a cozy feel that was easy, sustainable and cost effective. Although, we won’t have visitors this year, I still wanted to decorate for the holidays to process that time is actually passing by. Everything has felt like a blur and the concept of time has gone out the window. I’m sure many of you can relate!
So I went with an organic natural look this year and I love it! I brought a lot of greenery and natural materials into the mix (natural, twine, twigs, oranges) that can all compost because I’m aware of how wasteful holiday decorations can be. Plus, there are so many sustainable and natural ways to add warmth and bring the holiday spirit into your home. My main holiday decor items are:
A real Christmas tree with an eclectic array of ornaments from childhood
Lots of greenery to place on book shelves, vases and indoor wreathes
Tried the dried orange trend and I get it! It’s sustainable, cheap and adds nice texture
Soft lighting with lots of natural candles and even festive green candles
Take a look at some of my favorite corners and vignettes within the apartment:
I am loving how natural and effortless the decor has come together. The more greenery and natural products I bring into our home, the happier I am.
I did want to share some of my favorite pieces I’ve added over the years that luckily are still available to buy. First up is a couple of products from June Home Supply, my go-to sustainable Canadian shop. I have their taper candles in the color, moss and I bought a couple of these German wooden ornaments. They are both a nice earthy holiday touch.
A big part of getting into the Christmas mood for me is incorporating holiday smells. I got this balsam fir incense a couple of years ago – and it smells like you’re in a log cabin in the woods. Cozy, right? It’s perfect to have after the holidays too.
Elsie Green is another great place to shop for vintage, one of a kind pieces. I got a couple of their vintage brass candlesticks and it sets an elegant MOOD.
I hope everyone can enjoy their holidays, even if it’s just at home. Whatever you can do to just get by, that’s all that counts.
xx Christine
