It’s been a long time coming but it’s time to re-do our bathroom. If you’ve read up on my other Apartment Update posts, you’ll know we are slowly making our apartment our own. It’s been some time and I’ve hated the way our bathroom has looked for almost a year. Now that it’s the new year and I truly know what I want, I’m making moves. When we first moved in, we wanted to salvage as much as we could from our old apartment to save money. At the time it made complete sense and both Alex and I were on board. At our last apartment, we had a good amount of light and the way our landlord painted the bathroom left it feeling cool and grey. So we had grey accents (hand towels & rug). As I said, we wanted to keep our rug and wash towels, which were grey so I just ran with the darker colors.
Going darker was a big mistake… the bathroom we have now has zero light and no windows, so with the dark colors of grey bath rugs and towels paired with a navy shower curtain, it just made the bathroom seem very dark and damp. Not to mention, during the summer we had a bug issue being on the first floor and certain bugs that like damp places starting to appear (I’ll spare you from the details because it was GROSS). I started to really dislike our bathroom and never enjoyed going in to that room, which was sad because I spent everyday in there.
I’m really excited for this change and am hoping our bathroom will turn into an area that’s full of light and calmness. Below is my inspiration and an outline of what I’m looking for:
Of course we can’t paint or change the flooring because it’s a rental, but that doesn’t mean small touches won’t make a big difference. Below I picked out some good finds to help transform the room and add character. The bathroom is a work in progress right now, but I’ll be sharing the final look once it’s finished!
