Well, hello there! Coming back with a blog post today all about our plans for a kitchen update, part one.
After 6 months or so in the house, it’s starting to feel like ours. People always say it usually takes up to a year for a new house to feel like home and I totally understand that now. Let’s just say, the first few months were a transition and we had some low points. With that said, we’re feeling good about where we are and our plan is to tackle the kitchen this winter with a few minor updates.
There’s a lot we want to do with the space. Long-term, we’d love to do a kitchen gut and expand it into our breezeway. Or we’d like to knock down existing walls to extend the size of it. However, we have to start small and save up $ for that! A.K.A…. it will be a while until that happens.
I’ll do a true before and after post once it’s in a good place. We’ve already come along with the space by getting rid of the yellow walls, updating hardware and buying a new stove. With that said, there’s a lot more we can do to make it feel special.
Here’s where I’m getting inspiration from…..lighting, colors, shelving, general aesthetics, etc.:
In short, this is all that we’ll be doing in our part one reno: update cabinet hardware, switch out the faucet, get new lighting above the sink and middle of the room, paint our existing island with color, put down vinyl wood flooring, buy a new rug, make and hang shelving on the back wall and last but not least, add artwork and character to the space.
As I write it all out, it seems like a lot, lol. BUT we’ve started to chip away at the list and our goal is to focus on a couple of pieces each month. The biggest project to tackle will be the flooring. We’re very fortunate to have all hardwood flooring in the entire house except for our bathrooms and kitchen. However, the kitchen’s current vinyl tiles date the kitchen. Not to mention, it looks dirty and holds onto stains easily. So this will be such a nice transformation!
