If you read my recent interiors post, then you’ll know my first apartment update was ordering new picture ledges. Well…. they’ve come in and I’m so excited to get them mounted! In preparation of this weekend’s project, I’ve been pulling inspiration and picture ledges resources all week. I figured I’d share them with you since I found some gems.
Let’s get into it!
In this blog post, Chris Loves Julia’s guest writer, Andi, talks about how picture ledges is great platform to showcase photography and special pieces. What I like most about picture ledges is the extreme flexibility in moving items around. There’s less commitment to the design of the layout versus a gallery wall. The ledges in the picture above are actually two ledges mounted side by side and Andi talks about how they made that look happen. It’s a good trick if you can’t afford a long shelf, but you have to spend a lot of time making sure they line up! She also gives great tips on how to style family photos in your living space without making them too cheesy.

I’ve been a fan of Cate St. Hill’s interior design for awhile now and I knew she would be a great resources for picture ledges! Her style for the ledges are a bit different than just family photographs. She uses it as a forever changing mood board – which is what I’m aiming for. Some of her best tips on creating a cohesive ledge is to spread out the style and textures, to make sure objects are not all in one concentrated area – and to balance the items with different colors. She actually created an IGTV on this topic and it’s super helpful. I’ll link it here.
mStarr Design is a local Massachusetts designer I found on Instagram and I totally fell in love with her style! Plus her picture ledges is what ultimately led to me buying the same ones on Etsy. Emily’s style is such a dream and it gives me so much inspiration for when we get a house. In this Instagram post, she talks about how long it took to get this space looking right. Which is so true, I know it’s going to take time and a few iterations before I feel completely right about the look.
I’m beyond excited to dive deep into this project and I’ll take you along the way. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to get live updates!
