With a new season right around the corner, the temptation to buy a whole new wardrobe can be at an all time high! However, take this time to revisit and shop your closet for the spring basics you already own. I’m much more eager to take a look at my closet when it’s the beginning of a new season because I haven’t worn these items in a long time.
If you’re feeling the urge, here are some ways I’ve picked up over the years when it comes to transitioning into a new season.
Take inventory of what you already have and make sure the pieces you own you love and want to wear. This is similar to what I mentioned in my No Shop Month post because it’s a vital part in being sustainable with your wardrobe. Edit out the pieces you won’t wear and ethically dispose of them. I find the leaner the closet I have, the easier I can find my pieces of clothing. Once you clean out your closet, move your spring clothes to the middle of the rack, so you clearly visualize your items. This will make picking out outfits that much easier. And if you have a rolling rack, that’s even better!
Take care of your key pieces, so you can reach for those items year after year. Although it’s great to buy clothing that’s made of quality fabrics, it’s still not enough if you want your clothes to last. Make sure you’re being gentle and observant with your clothing. This article does a great job outlining the minimal and easy steps to take when taking care of your clothes. Although it may seem like a lot of work, it will last in the long run!
Here are some of my favorite basics I’ll be pulling out of my closet for years to come:
