It’s been A WHILE since I’ve done my last apartment update post. We haven’t done major updates, but I recently made some small decor changes that I want to share! First change is my desk area – since we’ve been in this apartment, we’ve had my desk in our second bedroom. It acts as our spare bedroom / Alex’s office, so the room was crowded and I needed my own space. Hence why we moved the desk out to the living room area and now it makes the space feel so much more complete.
I’ve had a good amount of my desk decorations for a while now, but I recently got a new chair and framed to-do list. They were both birthday gifts and have been a great additions! The chair is from Magnolia Home – I’m not seeing the chair online but if you search their site, you’ll find some really cute alternatives.
Another small change I’ve made is adding and rearranging books and candles to our entry way piece. I’ve been wanting to add more accent pieces for the longest time, but I know I need to save money (hi wedding) and not get anything new. So that’s exactly what I did, I took pieces from different areas in the apartment I wasn’t completely in love with and started to try different looks. In the pictures below are the different ways I was trying to style the area – I decided on liking the look of the last picture. It’s simple but the books add dimension and it gives them a new home 🙂
I do want to call out P.F. Candle Co. – they are easily my favorite candle company right now and they have amazing scents. My most recent favorite candle is their No. 21 Golden Coast scent. The candle includes notes of salty sea air, redwood, eucalyptus and white lavender. The smell is not over powering and perfect for a small apartment or smaller area where you want the candle to live.
Since the beginning of the Summer, we’ve added plants and herbs to our back deck. We had them last year, but the hanging plants were a new edition this time around. It’s been the nicest view to look out on and it adds some privacy from our backyard neighbors. Not to mention, the satisfying feeling you get when cooking with fresh herbs you’ve grown. We bought zucchini and started to see the beginning stages of flowers blooming but unfortunately, the damn squirrels kept eating them so no veggies for us this year!
I love rearranging old pieces in our apartment because it truly feels new again and is a good reminder that I don’t always need to buy something new when I’m feeling bored with our apartment decor. I will say that I have my eye on Nkuku Life which is an ethical and eco-friendly brand that creates beautifully handmade home and lifestyle products. Not only are their values in line with what I believe in as a consumer, but their products are the perfect minimal yet unique pieces I’ve seen. Once the timing is right and I actually need a decorative piece or furniture, their site will be the first place I visit.
